A Modern Classic
Pros: Style, Baby! Manual four-speed transmission.
Cons: 55 mph top speed. Higher pollution. Small storage. 4 spd tranny.
Review:
Essentially, the PX is a 30 yr old design brought back for one year (2005) with a few modern upgrades such as a front disc brake & electric start. The lines & two-stroke sound are classic Vespa. 55 mph top speed designed more for secondary roads. Countless modifications allow higher performance if desired. Requires more day to day service than an automatic four-stroke scooter (minor tweaking stuff) but is less expensive to maintain & arguably more reliable in the long run due to its simplicity. Manual transmission is a plus for control I think, but some will shy away. More for the purist I suppose. Light weight and small size make it a nimble handling and very enjoyable ride. Current thinking is these 2005s are the last of the 4 spd, 2-stroke breed from Vespa. Millions are out there, parts almost grow on trees. Whatever you decide, buy a full-face helmet, dress appropriately, take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course and enjoy - there's nothing like it.
